What is a smart car?

Before we proceed to the cleaning hacks, let us first discuss the meaning of a smart car? What is it all about and why it is called smart? Is it a genius car or something like that?

SMART stands for “Swatch Mercedes Art”. It is a car produced by the combined project between Swatch (watchmaker) and Mercedes-Benz. It is a mini-compact car with two seats only. It has a unique appearance because it looks like a cube with a trimmed down the front edge on wheels. These attributes help the smart car to have its stability. In general, smart cars are an automobile containing advanced electronics.

How to clean a smart car?

There are seven easy steps to make your smart look spotless.

Step #1:  Washing and rinsing

Things needed: two buckets, water, car shampoo, watering can or hosepipe, and wash mitt.

In this step, we will do the so-called “two bucket method”. Fill one bucket with car shampoo while the other bucket with water. Soak the wash mitt in the car shampoo and wash the car. Start washing from the top then down.

After that, rinse it using clean water. Using this method, the grit will fall in the bucket with water and not the other bucket. You also have a minimal chance of getting swirl marks and scratches. This is painful especially if your smart car is black.

Avoid washing your smart car in direct sunlight as much as possible. Also, keep in mind not to was your car if it is hot. It is also best to wash down your car using a constant flow of water to slacken the dirt.

Remember that by no means you should wash your car if it is hot. Try also to not wash it with direct sunlight. Moreover, you should not let the water dry on your car. This can cause water spots and streaking. Make use of a wash mitt instead of sponge as it can cause scratches.

Step #2: Drying

Things needed: Water magnet

Do you know what is a water magnet? It is a big towel that helps you to dry your entire car. It is very helpful because you don’t need to squeeze it in a bucket. Drying your smart car can be finished in no more than 10 minutes. Do not use “hydra blades” in drying your car. You can scratch your car with this and that would be unpleasant.

Step #3: Claying

Things needed: quick detailing system and a microfiber towel

Cut the clay bar into two pieces. Spread the one half clay bar and the other half in reserve. Once you’ve dropped the clay on the ground, it can’t be used again. Thus, it is better to have another one. Spray some detailing system in the clay and also to the panel.

Scrub the clay now into the panel. As soon as you felt friction, spray some quick detailing system in it. After some time, you can now see dirt on the bar. Using a microfiber towel, buff the panel.

 Step #4: Polishing

Things needed: cotton or microfiber towel, applicator pad, and polish

Use a microfiber or cotton towel when applying polish. Do not apply too much. The secret in polishing is to make a thin layer product, it works better. Put the polish one at a time. You can decide what movement you want when putting the polish. When removing the polish, use a good quality of microfiber cloth. For the best results, do the final buff using another cloth.

 Step #5: Waxing.

Things needed: wax and microfiber cloth.

Many car owners take their smart to dealers to avail of the high-quality service. It is fine as long as you afford it. Waxing also protects your car’s paint from road wear and fading. It also prolongs the life span of your car and increases its value in re-sale. Putting and removing wax in your car is the same as the procedure in removing the polish.

Step #6: Cleaning of wheels

Things needed: Wheel cleaner, wheel brush, sponge, a bucket of water, and microfiber cloth.

It will not be good if your car is shiny but the wheels and tires are dirty. Brake dust is corrosive and may corrode the wheels if left on it. Thus, it is important to clean your wheels. Make sure that the wheels are cold before applying a wheel cleaner. Some of the cleaners contain acid.

Spray the wheel cleaner into the wheel and agitate it using a brush. Ensure to brush all the corners of the wheel. After that, rinse the wheel with water and sponge. Dry it afterward through a microfiber cloth. Repeat this until the wheels are completely clean. You can also try coating the wheels with polish to help you in cleaning it again next time. The dirt will attach to the polish instead of the wheel.

After the wheels are cleaned, you can now dress the tires. This is the easiest part to be done. Spray the dressing and leave it.

Step #7: Glass Cleaning

Things needed: microfiber cloth, sponge, and glass polish/spray.

Finally, the last step to be done. Glass cleaners can be cream or spray. If you use cream, apply it to a sponge then to the car. Do this just like polishing a car. Finish off with a microfiber cloth.
